    Marianna’s Peace Tomato

    Marianna’s Peace tomato dates back to the turn of the 20th Century and stands out within our collection of over 140 tomatoes due to the story of Marianna, who the variety was named after.

    Freer’s Mummy Pea

    Freer’s Mummy pea originates from the gardens of Lord Carnarvon at Highclere Castle (now known the world over as Downton Abbey!) and is reputed to be from Tutankhamun's tomb.

    A true Italian heirloom, this sweet pepper has been grown by the Nardello family since the 19th century. However, it took an interesting route to get to the Heritage Seed Library.

    John’s Purple Carrot has been protected within the Heritage Seed Library Collection for nearly 40 years.

    Major Cook's Climbing French Bean

    This bean was passed to our donor, Mr Luxton, by his father in 1960. Mr Luxton senior had been given seeds of this variety by Major Cook, who was a colleague of his with The Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
