Large Red

Indeterminate. Cordon. A very old American heirloom variety pre-dating the American Civil War. Fearing Burr (1865) states when the tomato was first cultivated in the USA this variety was, for some time, the only tomato commonly known. Produces dark red, flattened and heavily ribbed fruits, 6-7cm in diameter. The firm flesh has a tasty, slightly acidic flavour. If seed saving, isolate from other tomatoes that have flowers with protruding stigma.
