Suttons Super Pea "The VC"

This variety was introduced by Suttons in 1905. Its 1933 catalogue proudly states: "The largest podded tall pea ever placed in commerce. The comparative tests carried out by us leave no doubt that the pods of this remarkable pea surpass in size every other giant-podded variety with which we are acquainted, and the numerous reports from customers who have grown it also testify to its productiveness and high table quality. At our own grounds we have gathered pods 8 inches in length. The haulm is exceptionally sturdy growing to a height of 5-6 feet, and the magnificent pods, which are borne in profusion, contain 12 or 13 peas of superior flavour. For exhibition work this pea is indispensable." Suttons is certainly not modest about this one, however, by the 1950s the variety had disappeared from its catalogue! Let us know what you think.
