Purple Podded

Introduced before 1911, this variety produces very tall plants with exquisite bicoloured purple flowers, worthy of a place in the ornamental bed. The fleshy, dark purple pods make perfect mangetout when immature, and the peas themselves are “tasty when eaten fresh”, says Seed Guardian Anne St John. However, they're also excellent for drying and cook easily once soaked.
