It's so good to see June in all its glory, and after a slightly testing April and May, I have been head down, bum in the air, full-on planting for the last few days. Apologise if that conjures up the wrong picture, but I'm confident that every gardener across the land knows what I'm talking about.
Garden Organic has appointed Fiona Taylor as its new chief executive. A keen organic gardener, Fiona brings a wealth of experience working in senior roles with charities and purpose driven companies. She also volunteers at a therapeutic gardening project near to her home in Worcester.
From the UK, US, Canada, Europe, Ireland and Australia, organisations such as ourselves are working together to celebrate International Compost Awareness Week, highlighting recycling food waste for home compost use.
Coming into May can create conflicting emotions in a gardener. On one hand, all the seed sowing undertaken in April has led to a rise of fresh young plants that hold so much promise for the season ahead, it truly is an exciting time.

The one foot in, one foot out month of April brings both the incredible joy of spring but also some important caution as cold snaps can suddenly arrive, and frosts are not uncommon. It is tricky as all the signs of seasonal change are around us, but caution with any tender plant material is still to be practised. Let us enjoy though the wonderful sight of the new season breaking out all around us.
