After the hugely busy period of both April and May, I always feel I have reached slightly calmer waters when the month of June kicks in.
Wildlife charity Butterfly Conservation is warning that time is running out to save some of Britain’s best-loved insects, with the latest Red List assessment of butterflies published in May, revealing a 26% increase in the number of species threatened with extinction.
National Children’s Gardening Week (28th May – 5th June 2022) is the perfect time to engage young people in the joys of organic and sustainable gardening. The week aims to celebrate the fun that gardening holds for kids and is a great way to bring families and all generations together.
We are pleased to announce that we are teaming up with Dalefoot Composts, makers of premium peat-free compost-based in the Lake District. The composts are made from sheep's wool, bracken and comfrey and are certified for organic growing by The soil Association.
As more and more of us live in flats or residences with small gardens, it’s important to think of inventive ways to grow food and keep in touch with nature. Size needn’t be a barrier to fruitful organic and sustainable growing - I’ve been growing on my north London balcony for a number of years now and enjoy the way the small space makes me think differently about my growing.
