MYharvest returns!
It’s easy to sign up, and as the summer passes it's fun to record your own individual harvest, down to the last apple.
"I signed up last year," says Sarah Brown, Garden Organic's Growing Advice Editor. "It's so easy to do. The best thing is that you don't have to wait until you've picked all your veg. Just weigh each time you pick for a meal, and gradually your total builds up. I can't believe I grew so much spinach last year! And the good news for Garden Organic members is that you can specify that you grow organically."
MYHarvest (Measure Your Harvest) is a research project investigating the quantities of home grown fruit and vegetables across the UK. Gardeners across the country are encouraged to sign up and record their individual harvests. There is no doubt that growing your own produce contributes to a healthy diet and general well-being. But there is no offical record of how much own-grown food gardeners and growers are able to produce. Can it contribute to this country’s food security?
