Heritage Seed Library 2022 Seed List - we’re almost ready!
To say the preparation for this year’s seed list has been a challenge is a bit of an understatement. Another disrupted growing season and seed packeting with social distancing have kept us on our toes, but we’re pleased to say that we’re pretty much there, and - touch wood - are all set up to offer as close to normal service as possible.
There will be a few changes this year so we would urge all members to read the following carefully.
To be able to offer as much choice this year, and in upcoming years, we have continued to highlight a number of varieties with very limited stock. We anticipate these running out quickly so if you would like to request a variety marked ‘limited stock’ please order quickly online, or make sure you put a second and third choice on your paper form.
To help us build up our seed supplies for future years after yet another disrupted season, we have continued with the decision to drop the 'lucky dip' option for this year. We hope you understand and this doesn't cause too much disappointment.
Whilst we should have more than enough seed to go around, we are aware that more people may order more than normal as a result of limited seed buying options elsewhere. If you have plenty of seed already we would ask that you consider just requesting the varieties you really want, even if that is fewer than 6. Of course, if you want all 6 that’s absolutely fine, it’s just something to consider.
We hope to be able to have your seeds with you well within our normal timeframe of 28 days. For those of you ordering over the festive season please bear in mind it may also take a little longer for postal orders to reach us, or for your seed to get to you after it’s been dispatched.
If you have any questions please contact us by telephone on 024 7630 8210 or email our Membership Team
Now we’ve covered the challenges, here’s a taster of what you have to look forward to!
You’ll have 156 varieties to choose from, of which 56 certified organic and 5 are new to the list this year.
Spotlight on our new varieties...
The melon Collective Farm Woman is among our new varieties for 2022, a sweet and crunchy Ukrainian heirloom well adapted to Northern latitudes and reputed to ripen well even in colder climates! We are also pleased to re-introduce several varieties that haven’t been available for a while. Look out for Kaskinauris, a purple disk-shaped turnip named after the ancient Finnish agricultural practice of slash-and-burn, and Virginia Rooster squash with its rugby ball-shaped fruit and tasty orange flesh.
The list will be sent to members either by email or in the post on 1st December depending on which option you’ve chosen.
We hope you enjoy this year’s selection and thank you for your support.
