Growth Therapy Group in the medals!

Congratulations to our Growth Therapy Group, who scooped five medals at the West Midlands Flower Show at Glasshouse College, Stourbridge, last Thursday, 24th September 2015.

The group were awarded three first prizes for their delicious courgette and lemon drizzle cake, boysenberry and cherry jam and selection of three veg on a plate – pumpkin, parsnip and red pepper, grown here in the therapy garden here at Ryton Organic Gardens. This was closely followed by second prizes for an action photograph of pumpkin soup making and carving and another in the best decorated plant pot category.

The Therapy garden was set up here at Ryton Organic Gardens in 1990 and offers people with learning support needs and/or health and well being issues, the opportunity to garden organically in a supportive and caring environment. Since 2004 Garden Organic has increased its range of horticultural activities and our clients now work within the main gardens, with the aim of promoting self-esteem, confidence and independence.

Elaine Hibbs, Education Officer at Garden Organic, said: "It was a wonderful to see the Growth Teams excellent work recognised at the show again. The group had a lovely day and their joy at winning so many prizes was plain to see. We’re already planning our competition entries for next year! "
