Dalefoot Composts are sponsoring our seed sowing sessions during 2022

This year Dalefoot Composts are sponsoring our seed sowing sessions during 2022, supplying their Wool Compost for Seeds for use in training sessions at Ryton. Attendees will be able to see and handle the compost for themselves with advice on hand from our expert horticultural team here at Garden Organic.

The company, set up by the hill farming duo Professor Jane Barker and Simon Bland has gone from strength to strength - from the days of selling out of bags at Tebay Farmers Market, to nowadays supplying compost to gold-winning growers at Chelsea Flower Show. And In spite of their success, Jane and Simon always stay true to their original idea of wholesome ingredients, organic practice and are pleased to continue the tradition of using comfrey, a great passion of our Founder, Lawrence Hills in their award-winning composts.

As well as making peat-free compost, Jane and Simon also work passionately to restore peat bogs. The company are partnering with The Eden Project at this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show, bringing an innovative experience to the Discovery Zone. Visitors will be able to step into a restored peat bog experience that shows why this precious resource needs to stay in our boglands.

If you want to help protect this valuable ecosystem, we urge you to spread the word by signing our For Peat’s Sake pledge. Peat has no place in horticulture, peat bogs provide a home to a wealth of precious plants, birds and insects. They also play a critical role as a carbon store, flood defences and water clarification system.
