Award for North London Master Gardeners
Garden Organic’s Master Gardener community food growing project Grow Clyde Road has won the Best Vegetable Garden category, in the 'Peabody in Bloom Awards 2014'.
The project based on the Clyde Road estate in Tottenham, North London, was launched in March with the aim of bringing the community together with a shared passion for growing their own food.
The Grow Clyde Road project was ran in partnership with the Peabody Housing Trust and has seen more than thirty residents across the generations, join forces to transform two plots into an edible garden. Garden Organic’s North London Master Gardeners ran regular workshops for residents; with topics ranging from seed sowing, composting, pest control through to how to grow exotic crops.
Master Gardeners and Composters are volunteers who are passionate about growing organic food. There are currently around 1,000 active Master Gardeners and Composters, who have been trained to offer support and encouragement to people who’d like to grow their own food or start composting in their gardens, allotments, and community spaces.
