Cycling to Rugby or Coventry from Ryton Gardens
From Ryton Gardens to Rugby:
(Approx. 8 miles along quiet lanes)
- Leave Ryton Gardens and turn RIGHT up the hill.
- Continue on this road for 2 miles, through the village of Wolston. Turn LEFT at the T-junction and go under the railway bridge (you are now on the Fosse Way).
- At the end of this road, turn LEFT onto the A428. Follow the road over the river bridge at the traffic lights, RIGHT into Bretford, past the Queen's Head pub, and then take the first RIGHT down a lane towards King's Newnham.
- Continue on this lane past the remains of a church tower on your right, and bear left past a right hand turn for Church Lawford.
- The lane winds left through King's Newnham, then take the next RIGHT towards Little Lawford.
- Pass under a railway bridge and at the end of this lane turn RIGHT at the T-junction down a steep hill along the B4112 through Newbold on Avon.
- At the roundabout, take the last exit (A426), under the railway bridge and almost immediately turn LEFT onto Wood Street
- Follow Wood Street to the junction with Station Terrace where you take a LEFT turn onto Station Terrace. Follow the road around to the right and Rugby Station is on your left.
- Enter the railway station on the south side, via the ramp to Platform 1.
From Ryton Gardens to Coventry:
For the scenic route avoiding both the A45 and the A429. (9-10 miles)
- Turn LEFT out of Ryton Gardens up to the roundabout with the A45.
- EITHER:
- Continue STRAIGHT ACROSS the large roundabout, signposted to Southam. Then continue straight across a mini roundabout
- Get onto the righthand pavement and follow the curve of the road to the RIGHT and along the side of the A45 until you come to a pedestrian subway on the corner of the first road junction. Go through the subway and follow the road away from the A45 through the village of Ryton-on-Dunsmore until you reach a T-junction. Turn RIGHT and you are on the A445 heading towards Leamington Spa. This small detour will avoid you having to cross the A45.
- Go straight across 1 roundabouts. Stay on the A445 past Ryton Pools (lakes) on your left. The road dips and rises and then turn RIGHT into the village of Bubbenhall
- Follow this road until you reach a T-junction immediately opposite a large arched entrance gate marked Tantara Lodge. Turn RIGHT at this junction, past the golf course on your left over a river bridge. Continue on this road until you reach a T-junction at the bottom of a hill with the river in front of you. Turn RIGHT over the bridge and bear right past the village of Stoneleigh
- Continue along this Lane (St Martins Road - B4113) until you pass under a wide road bridge. After the road bridge turn into Green Lane
- At the top end of Green Lane it joins the A45 but there is a pedestrian subway underneath it just to you left at the junction. Go through this subway - dismount and watch out for glass - and then turn RIGHT at the top of subway slope to continue along Green Lane. At the end of Green Lane turn LEFT along Coat of Arms Bridge Road.
- At the end of this road turn RIGHT onto the A429 Kenilworth Road and take the next LEFT turn down Stoneleigh Avenue
- At the end of Stoneleigh Avenue continue STRAIGHT ACROSS Beechwood Avenue onto Warwick Avenue. There are Cycle path signs directing you to the City Centre
- At the end of Warwick Avenue, turn RIGHT onto Earlsdon Avenue South and then first LEFT onto Belvedere Road
- At the end of Belvedere Road turn RIGHT onto Dalton Road and follow the road around to the left. At the end of Dalton Road there is a cycle path - immediately OPPOSITE across the road. Follow the path between the park on you left and school playing fields on your right
- Cross the pedestrian suspension bridge over the railway and car park. At the end of the bridge double-back to your right and go between the bridge and the Sports shop. If you look across the car park to your left to where the railway lines pass under a road bridge (there's a pub near the bridge) that's where the railway station is. Make you way across the car park to this point and there's a path under the road bridge which takes you onto Platform 1 of the station.
